Fair and Market Days

‘Dies de Fira i Mercat‘ is a new support service that aims to accompany and help all people who need it to make their purchases at the market or take them home.

The service is open to any need (elderly people, people who suffer from an illness, pregnant women, people who cannot go to the market due to schedule, etc…).

It is carried out thanks to the collaboration of Esment with the Inca City Council.

The “la Caixa” Foundation, through CaixaBank, has supported this project with 13,500 euros, which aims to avoid the isolation and loneliness in which many elderly people find themselves and, at the same time, that people with support needs can develop dynamic activities in the community. The pilot test of this project will be carried out in the municipal weekly market of Inca, where the City Council of the municipality has given a space to the entity to be able to install a stall where it can inform and offer this new service. This project also has the participation of the Inca Covered Market Association, since from here a group of people with support needs will offer from Monday to Friday, the possibility of accompanying the elderly to visit the covered market, help them with shopping bags to their home, or give them a hand when it comes to finding what they need.

In addition to offering this service, healthy food workshops are given for schools, collaborating with other vendors in the placement of products or helping in the dissemination of municipal activities.

At the moment the service is offered in the municipal market of Inca, but it is planned to extend it to markets in other municipalities such as Palma, Marratxí or Andraxt. It is a completely free service.

The service is carried out by a group of Esment Guies, made up of people with support needs, who offer this accompaniment every Thursday and free of charge with the purpose of developing employment activities with meaning for the community.

Selling Esment products to open markets

Beyond this new activity, the Fira i Mercat Days project also includes the presence of the entity at the fairs and open markets that are organised in Inca. An activity designed to give meaningful employment to people with support needs and at the same time, to be able to offer the organic and local products that are made by the entity. The stall will be on Thursdays at the Inca market, with a stall designed by the people of the Esment Inca employment area, the result of a collaboration project with Camper.
